How and where to celebrate New Year in Rome| Some tips

When in Rome , just party like an Italian ! Here some suggestions of what you can do :)

1 * Cenone (  New  Year’s Eve dinner)

One of the most common way to celebrate the New Year ‘s  Eve in Italy, is to have a plentiful dinner at home with family and  the beloved  ones

Traditional dishes that can’t be missed are Lentils and Cotechino ( pork sausages ). Both  Cotechino  and Lentils represent abundance since the Roman  times.

Eating  lentils the night of  New Year’s Eve symbolizes the wish of prosperity and fortune for the new year. This tradition comes  from the Romans, who used to donate a  leather bag  containing lentils, with the wish that they would be transformed into coins.

If you are a tourist , many restaurants offer a New Year’s menu, excellent in quality and tradition !

Just remember to book ahead.

2 * New Year’s Eve outdoor.

Another common way to celebrate New Year’s Eve is to party in the heart of the towns. Concerts and streets shows are organized everywhere  in  Italy, both in small villages and in big cities.

In Rome you will find 24 hours no-stop shows. Free theatre and dance performances with street artists all around the city center.

Along the Tiber there will be the greatest fun as well as around Circo Massimo and Coliseum area, where after midnight will perform the big Italian artist Vinicio Capossela !

At midnight you can watch the fabulous fireworks over the Coliseum. UNMISSABLE !

3* Disco Party  !

Still not tired? What about going dancing till dawn ?!

Here’ s a list of discos where you can dance all night long , but also book there a dinner!

Just remember to book and pay in advance

We wish you a joyful end of the Year and Great start of the new one!

Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam: “Cinemondo” international film festival‘s fourth edition celebrates South-East Asia this year. At Villa Medici (French Academy in Rome) from 27 November to 3 December 2014 there will be on show few works which, thanks to film festival such as this one, are getting more and more popular in Itay. A particular tribute will be given to cambodian director Rithy Panh’s “L’image manquante”, awarded at Cannes 2013 and Oscar 2014.
Spend an alternative evening in Rome: reach Villa Medici by metro line A, get off at Spagna… it’s just five minutes journey from Yes Hotel.

On the last Thursday of November it traditionally falls one of the most important public holidays in the USA: Thanksgiving Day. Despite its birth dates back Christian Protestant England, its American roots are conventionally identified with the harvest celebrations which would have been performed by the first Pilgrims in 1621 in the town of Plymouth. Since then, the meals cooked upon this festivity changed with time passing (at that stage, for instance, potatoes and sweet potatoes where not yet so regular in the English diet; sugar, requested by the cranberry sauce, was still too expensive, and pumpkin pie was suffering the lack of crust ingredients): today we have a menu where roasted turkey can’t be missing.
To embrace the spirit of its American visitors, Rome will be celebrating as well on 27 November 2014 with special arrangements in restaurants, pubs and places such as Palazzo Sciarra (where Norman Rockwell’s exhibit is on), and Cinecittà World (the biggest amusement park on Italian cinema industry). Ask Yes Hotel staff for full programme on events & venues!

Lady Aiko (strong of her cooperation with Banksy and Takashi Murakami) from Japan, Laurina Paperina from Italy, Faith47 from South Africa: 3 out of the 15 big street artists currently in Rome are women. Until 22 November the Eternal City gives room (literally!) to Outdoor Urban Street Art: an occasion to give new life to disused buildings in areas reputed out of the classical Roman itineraries. For 5 weeks, street artists gathered in Rome from 6 different nations will enhance an abandoned industrial site in San Lorenzo area (few steps away from the well-known Termini station): bright murals and fusion lights spread on 5m²“Moving forward” – such the title given to 2014 event – through an artistic itinerary which is in fact a physical, mental and emotional journey.
Venue: ex Dogana, via dello Scalo San Lorenzo 10 – San Lorenzo quarter (walking distance from Termini station).
Time: daily 12:00-22:00 until 22 November 2014
Yes Hotel offers you the perfect accommodation to easily reach this unconventional festival!
