Noting beats a good drink with a good friend and when it comes to drinks Rum it’s up there with the most celebrated. Book Recommendation

This is not a blog about books, but I just came across one that’s too good to be ignored.

Elena Bonora’s “Roma 1564″ is authoritative and educational but is also as entertaining as the best thriller. The book documents with great historical rigour a conspiracy to kill pope Pious IV and unveils through its reconstructions the sometimes brutal past of the city and the peculiar worldview of its inhabitants (there are astrologers and treasure hunts involved!)

Unfortunately the book is yet to be translated in English. If you know italian, get it; if you don’t, keep checking for the translation: it’s an indispensable read for those who believe that reality is stranger (and sometimes more intriguing) than fiction.

There is a very special niche for tourism in Rome: wedding tourism.

Many couples chose the Eternal City to take their vows, which as you can imagine is not a simple operation: involves booking hotels, organizing conflicting schedules and flights, but the memories are worth it!

Even if you are not part of the itinerant sposes club but are planning to get married Roma Sposa, an exposition of everything related to weddings: music, decoration, wedding dresses. You will have the chance to not only get ideas but also to buy items that will make that special occasion even more unique.

Roma Sposa will take place September 26-29 at the Anteprima Roma Sposa: quattro giorni di moda e tendenza all’insegna del wedding
Palazzo dei Congressi
, which can be easily reached from Yes Hotel or Hotel Des Artistes taking the blue subway line from Termini (get off at the station EUR Fermi).

Sleepless Night at the Roman Forum

Fori pedonali-3

Rome has recently elected a new mayor Ignazio Marino, who has brought back the beloved tradition of the the Notte Bianca (White Night), a sleepless night where museums and shops stay open until late for citizens to enjoy temselves and celebrate their city.

This time the White Night will take place August 3, to celebrate the beginning of a project whose aim is to turn the Fori Imperiali into a gigantic archeological park, so most of the action will take place near or around that area: acrobats, Shakespeare plays, music and even a tightrope walker who will walk above the ruins of the forum! Definitely an occasion not to be missed !
