The Capitoline Museums hold an exhibition aimed to deepen the knowledge of a historical period of great artistic splendor and great political balance, 98 -180 AD. This is the period of eighty years of the golden days, The Age of Balance, which covers the rule of the Emperors: Trajan, Hadrian, Marcus Aurelius and Antonio Pio.
The years of the Mediterranean peace, the unification of the currency area, the spread of Roman legal system the diffusion of urban living, the end of the conquest and the violence that make possible the political stability, economical growth and artistic flowering.
The exhibition has six sections: “The characters”, “The artistic language “” Villas and houses “” The historical decorations “”Winners and Losers” and “Tombs” to show how this four emperors, chosen “for adoption” that is, by virtue of their personal qualities and not by right of birth, brought the general development in all aspects of human life.
